brb. note no. 00 // status: rebuilding we're under construction. recent work coming soon.

Becca Searns is a designer, photographer, and creative director.

I grew up in an entrepreneurial family where marketing was part of everyday life—business conversations were as common as breakfast. That early exposure shaped how I think: creatively, strategically, and always a few steps ahead. After earning my BFA in New Media Design and MBA from RIT, I hit the road—quite literally—joining Remote Year and building a design career while traveling across six continents.

For over seven years, I’ve worked remotely—blending design thinking with lessons from the road: adaptability, curiosity, and a deep respect for different perspectives and new experiences. Somewhere between client calls and border crossings, I found my sweet spot at the intersection of UX, strategy, and story.

Now, as Creative Director at Haley Marketing, I lead design and user experience across our digital products and oversee the quality of our creative services. I’m especially passionate about helping businesses explore the future of creativity with AI—using emerging tools to elevate what makes each brand unique, not replace it.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜’𝗺 𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆:

  • How to build creative systems that stay human in an AI-powered world
  • Leading teams to deliver thoughtful, story-first design at scale
  • What it means to live a meaningful, self-designed life
  • How travel, solitude, and experimentation can deepen our work and life

𝗔 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮:

When I’m not designing, you’ll find me writing on Substack, chasing wild ice with my camera, or deep in a brainstorm about what comes next. I love connecting with fellow creatives, founders, and curious minds exploring the edge of design, technology, and meaningful work.

A few things about me

12 years at Haley Marketing, working my way from intern to director of creative services. Prepared awards entries for national competitions, assisted creative and support teams with website edits and image creation, created and implemented visuals for social sharing. I designed best-selling WordPress themes, helped launch our visual content sharing service. Designed and developed Haley Marketing and BARQAR sites. Updated the Haley Marketing visual brand. Designed and developed several large custom websites. And am the lead designer on client-facing CMS and internal UX projects.

7 years on the road. 23 months with Remote Year, living and working in a new city around the world every month. 2.5 months on a solo road trip around the continental United States. And countless solo adventures & trips with friends. Learned to communicate across languages (travel-level Spanish) and developed my strengths and weaknesses. Organized multiple excursions and trips. Able to adapt and stay calm under pressure. Self-motivated and able to manage workload on the go.

1 summer as a Digital Design Intern at Gelia. Lead designer and front-end developer on the Intern website. Assisted where needed on other design materials and advertising brainstorming. Taught me a traditional ad agency wasn’t for me. I prefer a faster-paced, self-directed work environment.

3+ years as a freelance designer. Designed logos for several consulting firms and coaches, designed advertisements and performed website maintenance for SAT prep school. Designed and built WordPress websites for creativity consultant and staffing firms.

5 years as founder and president of RIT Women’s Club Ice Hockey. Started the club team during freshman year, ran e-board meetings and club events, managed fundraising activities and acted as liaison between advisor and club.

13 years as hockey player. Within 3 years of my first practice I earned my spot on the travel and varsity teams. Continued to work hard and earn as spot as Monroe County Edge Travel Hockey Assistant Captain (2014-15) and Coached 16u in 2016.
